Shopify retired Stocky in 2026 and a crowd of replacements appeared. This page lists the ones retailers actually name in the Shopify Community "Replacement for Stocky?" thread, what each does, and where each one wins. We make Backroom, so read the table knowing that — and we've put our own gaps in it.
Last updated 2026-10-23. Prices and features are as published on each app's listing or stated by its developer; they change, so check the listing before deciding. "?" means we couldn't confirm it. Tell us about a mistake at SavageSolutionsCompany@gmail.com and we'll fix it.
What retailers said they need
From the thread: purchase orders with partial receiving, reorder suggestions per variant/size that respect supplier lead times (a flat reorder point "either stocks you out or ties up cash"), a year-end stocktake, inventory reports, a way to bring Stocky's history across, and a price that a small store can live with. Most posters wanted under $30 a month; several wanted free.
Stockroom is free with unlimited purchase orders and has the most reviews of the group. If you only need POs and receiving — no counts, no suggestions — it's the obvious choice.
Alfred has inventory transfers between locations and deeper forecasting. Backroom deliberately leaves transfers to Shopify's native transfers.
Binly is cheaper for unlimited POs ($19) and offers a hands-on migration.
EZStock's free tier allows five POs a month to Backroom's three.
If you sell on Amazon or Etsy as well, none of these are multi-channel; look at Sumtracker or Prediko instead (both $49–59+).
Where Backroom wins
The whole loop in one app at one price: suggestions → PO → scan the delivery in → count the shelves → reports. Several apps above do two or three of those.
Suggestions are per variant and lead-time aware, and every line shows the maths ("sells 1.4/day, 7-day lead time, 3 left → order 24"). Nothing is a black box.
A real free plan with every feature — capped on volume, not on features — and no time limit.
It's the only one here your AI assistant can operate: a JSON API and an MCP server so Claude or ChatGPT can answer "what should I reorder from Northwind?" or receive a delivery for you.
A weekly email of what will run out before the supplier could deliver, and a reminder the morning a delivery is due.
How to choose in ten minutes
Export your Stocky purchase orders and SKU costs now, whatever you pick.
Write down the three things you did in Stocky every week. For most stores: see what's low, send the order, count the shelves.
Install the two or three apps that do all three, on a free plan or trial, and run one real delivery through each. The receiving screen is where these apps differ most.
Pick the one your staff could use without you. Price differences of $10 a month matter less than a count that takes an hour instead of three.
